More Than Insurance: A Complete Relocation Network

FAB's roots are in insurance. It is where the company began eleven years ago, and FAB French Insurance remains at the heart of what we do today. But there is something we learned fairly quickly after starting to work with international residents: nobody moves to France because they are particularly excited about buying an insurance policy.

Insurance is simply one piece of a much bigger move.

Our clients would come to us because they needed health insurance for a visa, and then ask if we knew someone who could help them understand the visa itself. Another person needed an immigration lawyer. Someone else was buying a property and needed the right specialist. Then came questions about taxes, moving belongings, importing cars, bringing pets to France, translations and the dozens of practical issues that appear once an international move stops being an idea and starts becoming real.

Over eleven years, those conversations have helped create something much broader around FAB: a network of professionals who understand the particular challenges international residents can encounter in France.

Why Do Expats Need a Relocation Network in France?

One of the difficulties of moving internationally is that no single professional can legitimately advise you on every aspect of the process.

An insurance broker understands insurance. An immigration lawyer understands immigration law. A tax adviser deals with taxation, while property professionals, notaires, vehicle specialists, removals companies and veterinary professionals each bring another area of expertise.

Trying to find all of those people yourself is possible, but it can become a project in its own right, particularly when you are trying to establish whether somebody understands international situations and is comfortable working with clients who may not yet speak fluent French.

This is where a relocation network becomes particularly useful.

The value is not having one company pretend to know everything. It is having a central point of contact that understands your wider relocation and knows when your question requires a different type of expertise.

What Professionals Might You Need When Moving to France?

The answer depends entirely on your move.

A relatively straightforward relocation may require very few professionals beyond those helping with your visa, insurance and accommodation. A more complex move could involve immigration specialists, lawyers, accountants or international tax advisers, estate agents, mortgage specialists, notaires, removals companies, vehicle-registration specialists, sworn translators or professionals who understand the requirements for relocating animals.

This can become particularly important because decisions in one area can have consequences elsewhere. Buying a property is not simply a property question if there are international tax or inheritance considerations involved. Bringing a car to France is not simply a matter of finding French insurance if the vehicle also needs to be imported and registered. Moving with a pet involves considerably more than finding a pet-friendly property.

Having access to the appropriate specialist at the right point in the process can prevent a relatively simple question becoming an expensive problem later.

Does FAB Provide All of These Relocation Services Directly?

No, and that distinction matters.

FAB has developed expertise across many aspects of expatriate insurance, healthcare and relocation, but there are situations where the correct answer is to introduce a client to somebody whose professional expertise sits outside our own.

We think that is a strength rather than a limitation.

If you have a complicated tax question, we want you speaking to somebody qualified to advise on tax. If your situation requires legal advice, you need a lawyer. If you are purchasing property, there are stages where the appropriate property or legal professional needs to become involved.

The objective of the FAB relocation network is therefore not to replace every professional involved in moving to France. It is to help clients reach the right people when they need them.

Why Are Trusted Introductions Valuable for Expats?

Finding a professional online is easy. Knowing whether they are accustomed to working with international residents can be considerably harder.

An adviser may be excellent at what they do while having relatively little experience with somebody arriving from the United States, UK or another country. Language can create another barrier, as can understanding documents, financial structures or administrative expectations that are completely normal abroad but unfamiliar in France.

Over the years, FAB has developed relationships with professionals across different areas because these are the people our clients repeatedly need.

That does not mean every client needs every member of the network. It means that when a question moves beyond our expertise, we have a much better idea of where that question should go next.

Can One Contact Help Throughout Your Move to France?

Your needs can change dramatically between the day you decide to move to France and the point where you finally feel settled.

You might first contact FAB because you need private health insurance for your visa. Several months later, you could be dealing with French healthcare and looking for complementary insurance. Later still, you might be importing a car, purchasing property or need help finding the appropriate professional for a completely different issue.

One of the advantages of having an established relocation network is that you do not necessarily have to start your research from zero every time something new appears.

FAB already knows your wider story, and in many cases that context matters.

How Has FAB Grown Beyond Insurance Over 11 Years?

There was never a grand plan for FAB to become involved in so many different parts of international relocation.

It happened because our clients kept asking us questions.

Those questions showed us that insurance could not always be separated neatly from everything happening around it. People did not simply need a policy; they needed to understand how that policy fitted into their visa, healthcare or life in France. Once we began helping with those questions, others naturally followed.

Eleven years later, insurance remains a core part of FAB, but the community surrounding it has become much broader.

It includes clients, relocation specialists and professionals working across the many different areas involved in building a life in France.

And perhaps that is the most useful way to describe FAB today.

You do not need us to pretend we can do everything. You need us to know what we can do, recognise when somebody else is better placed to help and know who to call next.

That is what a complete relocation network should be.
