Eleven years ago, FAB started with a relatively simple idea: make insurance in France easier to understand for international residents. What happened next was not quite so simple, because the more people we helped, the clearer it became that insurance was rarely an isolated problem. It was usually one part of a much bigger story involving a move to France, healthcare, visas, property, cars, administration and all the uncertainty that comes with trying to build a life in another country.
In April, we celebrated 11 years of FAB at the Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz, surrounded by clients, partners, friends and members of the FAB community. Rather than simply looking back at company milestones, we wanted to hear from the people who had actually been through the process themselves, so throughout the event we recorded a series of conversations with clients about why they contacted FAB, what they needed help with and what made a difference during their move.
For anyone currently researching a trusted relocation company in France, these experiences highlight something that is difficult to communicate through a list of services alone: when you move abroad, expertise matters, but so does knowing that there is a real person available when something does not go according to plan.
Why Is Trust So Important When Moving to France?
Moving to another country requires an unusual amount of trust. You are making decisions about where you will live, how you will access healthcare, which insurance you need and how you will navigate an administrative system that may be completely unfamiliar to you.
Even after months of research, there often comes a point when information alone is no longer enough. You need to understand whether that information applies to your nationality, visa, family, income, healthcare situation or plans for France.
That is something that came through repeatedly in the relocation testimonials we recorded for FAB’s anniversary. Clients spoke about responsiveness, reassurance and having somebody available throughout the process, rather than simply receiving an answer and then being left to work out everything else themselves.
This distinction matters because international relocation rarely follows a perfectly predictable path. A document can be rejected, an administration can request something unexpected, circumstances can change halfway through a move or a question that initially seemed very simple can reveal another issue that needs resolving first.
A good relocation service cannot promise that those complications will never happen. What it can do is make them considerably easier to deal with when they do.
Why Does Personal Experience Matter When Choosing a Relocation Company in France?
One of the difficulties with researching how to move to France online is that there is an enormous amount of information available, but not all of it will apply to your circumstances.
Someone may tell you exactly how they obtained their Carte Vitale, exchanged their driving licence or completed an administrative procedure, and their experience can be genuinely useful. The problem begins when an individual experience is interpreted as a universal rule.
French administration is full of procedures that vary according to nationality, residence status, family circumstances, employment, income and the reason somebody is living in France. Two people asking apparently identical questions can therefore need very different answers.
After eleven years of working with international residents, we have encountered an enormous range of situations, including plenty that did not fit neatly into the standard relocation checklist.
That experience allows us to look beyond the immediate question and consider what may come next, what could cause a problem and when another professional needs to become involved.
What Do FAB's Move to France Reviews Tell Us?
One of the themes that emerges from our client experiences is that people often remember how they felt during the process just as much as the administrative result itself.
Moving countries creates uncertainty. Even when everything is technically progressing as it should, waiting for an application, trying to understand an unfamiliar document or wondering whether you have missed an important step can be stressful.
Having somebody who can explain what is happening in plain English can therefore make an enormous difference.
For some clients, FAB's involvement begins with one relatively small question. For others, we become involved at several points during their relocation. What matters is that people know they can come back when the next question appears rather than having to understand the entire French system before they arrive.
Why Choose FAB When Moving to France?
We do not believe being a trusted relocation company in France means pretending that moving here is always easy.
Sometimes French administration is slow. Sometimes the answer is more complicated than expected. Sometimes there is no shortcut and the process simply needs to be followed.
Trust comes from being transparent about that, explaining the available options and helping clients understand what they can realistically expect.
Technology has made information about moving to France easier to find than ever before, and that is a good thing. But there remains an enormous difference between finding information and knowing whether that information applies to you.
After eleven years, the human element remains one of the things we value most about FAB. Behind every insurance policy, visa question, CPAM application or piece of French paperwork is somebody making a significant change to their life.
Our role is to make that change a little easier to navigate.
11 Years of Helping Expats Build a Life in France
Our anniversary in Biarritz gave us an opportunity to celebrate how far FAB has come, but listening to our clients also reminded us why the company developed the way it did.
People rarely came to us because they wanted to become experts in French administration. They came because they wanted to live in France.
Everything else was simply what needed to happen to make that possible.
Eleven years later, that remains at the centre of what we do. We cannot promise that every stage of moving to France will go perfectly, but we can make sure you have people around you who understand the system, care about getting things right and are there when you need help working out what comes next.
If you are considering moving to France and would like to discuss your plans with the FAB team, sometimes the best place to start is simply with a conversation.
